Defence Social Worker – Sexual Misconduct team (12 month contract) abrs

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our Client is seeking an experienced Social Worker (eligible for AASW) or AHPRA registered Psychologist for a full time one year contract based in Canberra, ACT.

Background – The Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office (SeMPRO)

Located in the Department of Defence, and more specifically within the Defence People Group, the Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office (SeMPRO) is a dynamic and multi-skilled team, and includes mental health, education and communication professionals. It assists Defence personnel directly impacted by sexual misconduct and provides education resources and products including online content.
  
Position Description
The Defence Social Worker will be joining a team of people who are caring and supportive by nature. The candidate will add value with a similarly positive, optimistic and open minded approach. The candidate must be able to work autonomously but will value teamwork and the support of others. The successful applicant will have a client-focused and trauma-informed practice framework; strong assessment and documentation skills; and an ability address the needs of a range of Defence clients. Note – monthly professional supervision is funded for SeMPRO Social Workers and Psychologists.
  
The position is Canberra-based and contributes to SeMPRO’s prevention and education initiatives in the delivery of awareness and education packages.
  
Duty Statement
  
The key responsibilities will be to provide primarily phone-based support and client response to personnel who have been subjected to unwanted sexualised behaviours in Defence. The Client Response Team also provides advice and assistance to Defence commanders and managers who are managing personnel impacted by sexual misconduct to promote the wellbeing of personnel involved.
  
Eligibility Mandatory:

  • Bachelor of Social Work, eligibility for Membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP)-General Registration; or
  • Fully registered Psychologist, with no restrictions with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA).
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at ‘Baseline’ level.

Highly regarded:

  • Experience and skills in responding to clients who have experienced sexual assault &/ or other forms of abuse.
  • Experience in responding to clients in crisis or following critical incidents.
  • Experience in providing guidance and support to enhance outcomes for clients.
  • Demonstrated experience of clinical work in social work or psychology, or multi-disciplinary settings.
  • Knowledge of Defence policies and processes.
