JOB DESCRIPTION

The Defendant Health Liaison Service has been developed from Safe at Home funding provided to the Department of Health and Human Services to enhance the service response to family violence offenders with health and/or welfare needs who enter the Safe at Home system.  The service assists offenders to access appropriate services for assistance, assessment and/or treatment through active referral and provides information and consultation to Safe at Home and other services.  The overall aim of the Defendant Health Liaison Service is to enhance service delivery to offenders, reduce the risk of further offending and to increase victim safety.

In accordance with primary care principles, Agency policy and direction, legal requirements and professional competencies, ensure the delivery of quality care services to clients who are involved in the Safe at Home system. 

Promote community awareness of mental health, disability and drug and alcohol issues and the way in which they may interrelate with family violence.

Provide assessment, intervention and referral services to individuals who have single, dual or multiple alcohol and/or drug, mental health and/or disability issues and who have been charged under the Family Violence Bill 2005.

Ensure the provision of specialist liaison and consultation in relation to mental health, disability and alcohol and drug matters and management of associated problems to Magistrates, Solicitors, Police, Department of Justice and Community Corrections staff.

Ensure support, consultation and service linkage to Safe At Home Support Services for victims who have single, dual or multiple alcohol and/or drug, mental health and/or disability issues.

The role:

  • Provide an initial risk assessment to those persons identified within the Justice system as having, or who may have. single, dual or multiple mental health, disability and alcohol and/or drug issues.
  • Maintain accurate files and provide timely reports to the Family Violence Courts as needed.
  • Liaise with relevant government and non-government agencies to formulate appropriate interventions that are acceptable to the court, client, and the services involved in the care and case coordination of the client.
  • Ensure the provision of education about mental health, disability and alcohol and drug matters and the way in which they interrelate with family violence to government and non-government agencies and  with services dealing with victims and offenders who have complex needs including mental health, disabilities and drug and alcohol problems.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term, full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2023.

Salary: 

$96,689 to $114,391 per annum + 10.5% superannuation 

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

•             Professional Development Allowance of up to $724 per annum for the ability to accrue fund up to five years

•             Post graduate qualification salary advancement where applicable

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $105,245 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme 
  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2019

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Satisfactory completion of an appropriate allied health professional course of study at a recognised tertiary institution and registered with the relevant Board or, in the case of unregulated professions, eligible for membership of the relevant professional association

  1. Current Driver’s Licence

  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
