Based and working in the northern Mallee Sunraysia region, we are currently seeking an experienced Counsellor to join our Client Services team on a full time basis. As a qualified Counsellor, you will provide support to people living with dementia, their families and carers, to enhance their quality of life and build self-efficacy through the provision of individual or group counselling, and other related activities. Servicing the Swan Hill and Mildura area for in-person services.  

Reporting directly to the Client Services Team Leader you will also be responsible for:

  • Providing dementia specific counselling for people living with dementia, their families and carers through individual or group counselling in accordance with specified guidelines
  • Providing information about dementia, available services, community and family education, and resources to carers
  • Facilitating the delivery and evaluation of group education programs for people living with dementia and their carers and families in accordance with program guidelines and workplan 
  • Screening and assessing clients to ensure that appropriate and timely services are received

To be successful in this role you will be a team player, show an absolute commitment to the delivery of high quality dementia services and support and meet the key selection criteria outlined below. 

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Registration with, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body or association (e.g. Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, Australian Counselling Association, Australian Association of Social Workers or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia).
  2. Minimum two years counselling experience.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of the impact of the diagnosis and progression of dementia on the person and their family.
  4. Experience in the delivery of educational information and group programs.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation skills etc.).
  6. Well-developed case note, record keeping and report writing skills.
  7. Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality presentations across a diverse community

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate speciality area such as Psychology, Social Work or Counselling
