What you’ll be doing

The Domestic Family Violence and Sexual Assault Service (DFVSAS) is responsible for delivering sexual assault and domestic violence services across ISLHD, leadership and capacity building within these portfolios and within ISLHD Violence Abuse and Neglect (VAN) service system. 

DFV&SAS Counsellors provide high quality, culturally competent, trauma-informed therapeutic counselling and support services to:
• people who have experienced sexual abuse (ie.  children, young people, their non-offending family members and adults); 
• adults affected by domestic and family violence (DFV); and,
• children under 10 years of age (and their families), presenting with problematic and/or harmful sexualised behaviours. 

 

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

 

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria

  1. Full registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist or a Social Work degree and eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW); including the ability to demonstrate a practical application of the Psychology/AASW Code of Ethics.
  2. A minimum of 3 years relevant clinical experience post-graduation providing trauma informed therapeutic support services with people who have experienced trauma (namely child/adult sexual assault, family and domestic violence), including psychosocial assessments, crisis interventions, risk assessment and safety planning, advocacy, psychoeducation, therapeutic counselling and group work.
  3. Clear understanding and demonstrated application of evidence based models of care which support healing and recovery from trauma (including PTSD symptoms), and address psychological and interpersonal impact of sexual assault and DFV dynamics; and the capacity to provide clinical supervision.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation, its application to clinical practice, including appropriate ethics and boundaries, when working therapeutically with children, young people and adult victims of sexual assault and adults who have experienced domestic and family violence.
