Lead and inspire within a long standing and diverse Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

TAIHS are looking for an innovative Director of Community and Youth Services to join our organisation.

This is a dynamic and rewarding role, as TAIHS is a unique organisation, providing a varied range of services across multiple facets of our community.

TAIHS was established in 1974. At that time, it was the fourth Aboriginal community-controlled health service (ACCHS) established in Australia. TAIHS provides comprehensive primary health services and a range of community services. TAIHS seeks to improve health and social outcomes for the community through strategic partnerships advocacy for needs, promotion of awareness and education in improved health and social practices, the promotion of knowledge and understanding of underlying issues to address the unique patient and client needs and the development of evidence-based practices.

As our Director of Community and Youth Services you will provide leadership, strategic input, management, oversight and direction to the community and youth services activities within TAIHS and direct supervision and support of the associated teams, Managers and Leads.

You will:

  • Manage the day-to-day business and operations of all associated services pertaining to the service division to ensure that the community and youth services are provided in a safe, reliable and responsive manner
  • In partnership with the Executive Management Team, develop, operationalise and monitor the service’s annual business and operational plans, including community and corporate governance plans
  • In partnership with the TAIHS Executive Management Team, contribute to and operationalise elements of the TAIHS strategic and service plans
  • Foster and actively promote a positive, respectful workplace culture by maintaining and modelling professional and person behaviour that strongly represents the TAIHS values and the incumbent’s own Professional Association/Body’s code of conduct and/or professional standards
  • Establish and maintain clear standards for human service practice that ensures quality client centred care and cultural-based safety
  • Actively lead or participate in service, local and state projects that both promote and develop community and youth services across Townsville and surroundings as negotiated with the CEO

About You 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification is an associated discipline – Social Work, Social Services, Allied/Mental Health, Youth and Community Services
  • A minimum of three years recent experience within a relevant community setting in a senior management/leadership role
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and social determinants of health
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills and capabilities including the ability to think and plan strategically
  • Proven experience and knowledge of financial and resource management aligned to multiple service level agreements 
  • Proven performance in meeting targets, activity and financial KPI’s
  • Knowledge of community funding processes including an understanding of industrial, legislative and regulatory requirements linked to community and child protection services
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety and quality systems and these apply to the public health care environment
  • Experience leading and supporting a community services through substantive change with a sound knowledge of change management theory and practice
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and representation skills, including a proven history of being able to successfully relate to, and communicate with all levels of employee from different professional backgrounds, and a demonstrated ability to develop and enhance partnerships with key stakeholders including other health services, government departments and NGO’s
  • Proven experience in human resource functions pertaining to community services 
  • Demonstrated understanding, application and innovation within a person-centered model of care
  • Demonstrated commitment to multidisciplinary and inter-sectoral working.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.
