We are on the lookout for someone with proven experience working within the domestic and family violence space, with the demonstrated ability to quickly build rapport and work collaboratively within diverse teams. Our ideal candidate will also have a comprehensive knowledge of the issues affecting families and individuals experiencing domestic and family violence, child abuse, suicidal ideation, and self-harm.

The CatholicCare Central Queensland and Helem Yumba Domestic & Family Violence Response program provides a range of collaborative and person-centred support interventions to adults, children and young people who are experiencing, or who are at risk of experiencing, domestic and family violence. The partnership between CatholicCare and Helem Yumba is a first for our region, ensuring that all domestic and family violence supports are provided in a culturally safe way. This is an exciting time to be joining our team as we embark on this innovative journey towards enhancing services for our region.

About the Role

The Domestic and Family Violence Case Worker is responsible for providing high quality case management service as part of the Domestic and Family Violence Response Program, to maximise the safety of all families at risk. The Domestic and Family Violence Case Worker will provide early intervention, safety skills and planning, information, referrals, and options to people during a critical time.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Undertaking initial screening and intake, conducting risk and needs assessments and appropriate safety planning.
  • Developing client care plans and delivering wrap-around targeted interventions, including consultation with and referrals to other agencies.
  • Maintaining strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensuring that all services provided are done so in accordance with the relevant funding guidelines and standards and organisational policies and procedures.

What We’re Looking For

  • Understanding and knowledge of domestic and family violence dynamics, as well as community services such as child, youth and family, family violence, housing, mental health, and alcohol & other drug services.
  • Diploma of Community Services as a minimum qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention, prioritise work, carry out risk assessments and conduct safety planning.
  • A current C or CA class Driver’s license (QLD)

In addition to the above, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work within the legal limitations around the right to confidentiality and privacy.
  • Knowledge of the issues affecting families and individuals who may be experiencing domestic and family violence, child abuse, trauma-informed practice, suicidal ideation, and self-harm.
  • Understanding of case management principles and how to implement these (desirable).
  • Proven ability to manage and maintain caseload and documentation.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge to implement trauma-informed practice.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders through trust rapport whilst adhering to ethical standards and guidelines.
  • Capacity to engage clients from diverse backgrounds and establish effective working relationships, remaining mindful of appropriate cultural protocols.

All offers of employment are subject to the satisfactory completion of relevant screening and background checks, including an Australian Federal Police check, an NDIS disability worker screening check, and attainment of a Blue Card for working with children, prior to commencement.
