JOB DESCRIPTION

Micah Projects provides a range of support and advocacy services to individuals and families.

Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) is the specialist domestic violence service for the Brisbane metropolitan region. Brisbane Domestic Violence Service is funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to provide free and confidential services to adults and children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence.

BDVS has a focus on achieving safety and stability for the individuals and families that we support. 

How you will make a Difference:

As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Male Youth Advocate, you will work as part of the Safer Families Initiative to support young people and protective caregivers impacted by domestic and family violence to increase safety in the home and reduce the young person’s use of adolescent-to-parent violence.

This is a full-time fixed term employment opportunity until end of December 2024, with conditions and salary at Level 4 or 5 of the SCHADS Award dependent on qualifications, skills and knowledge.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to hold a relevant qualification and/or extensive experience, or a combination of experience, expertise, and competence.

You will also have knowledge of or ability to acquire relevant knowledge of legislation and regulations specifically the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 Section 5A Information Sharing, The Child Protection Act 1999; and an understanding of the Family Law Act.

Demonstrated ability to work and creatively engage young people with complex needs and trauma related behaviours, experience of interventions with young people and families including case management, therapeutic support, psycho-educational intervention, and group facilitation skills, and knowledge of, and ability to apply current theory and practice relating to adolescent-to-parent violence and domestic and family violence are critical to this role.
