We are seeking to fill two part time female Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker positions in Riverina Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS). This position will be part of a team committed to eliminating violence against women and their children. These roles are offered on a part time basis (21 hours per week) is based in our Wagga Wagga office with provide services to courts in the Riverina region including Wagga Wagga, Cootamundra, Gundagai, Junee, Tumut, Temora and Tumbarumba

Workers in Riverina WDVCAS provide intake, information and referrals, threat assessment, case coordination, court assistance and court advocacy to WDVCAS clients. They work in partnership with NSW Police, local courts, legal representatives and referral agencies to ensure safety and support for women who are experiencing domestic violence.  Riverina  WDVCAS provides court assistance and court advocacy before, during and after court for clients who are going through the ADVO process at courts within the Riverina WDVCAS district.

The Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker exercises a high-level of expertise to provide accessible and relevant services to women and their children.

Applicants should have a commitment to empowering women and children affected by domestic and family violence and have demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics, complexities and legal and social welfare consequences of domestic violence;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic violence including Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO) applications and criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victim’s compensation issues;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the particular needs of and challenges faced by clients from diverse communities, especially ATSI and CALD clients;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support;
  • Ability to deliver services in accordance with the WDVCAS Service Agreement, WDVCAP Principles, Policies and Standards and other operational documents;
  • Sound organisational and administrative and management skills;
  • Ability to implement service delivery strategies aimed at ensuring the relevance, accessibility and responsiveness of Local Coordination Point services to a diverse range of women and children;
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution; and
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and an ability to work effectively with interpreter services and other support services for victims with specific needs.

  • Ability to travel out of area for meetings and training;

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of appropriate referral agencies in service area.
  • Knowledge of and an ability to work effectively with interpreter services.
