Intensive Family Support
The Intensive Family Support Service responds to vulnerable families with children and young people (up to 18), who are at risk of involvement in the statutory child protection system. This is a consent based program providing case management for clients who agree to engage with the service.
About the role
Our Domestic and Family Violence Specialist supports vulnerable and at-risk families to build their capacity to safely care for and nurture their children. As part of a team, on a day-to-day basis you will:
- Conduct home visits
- Assess the complexity of domestic and family violence, undertake risk assessments and develop safety plans with participants
- Screen high risk domestic and family violence cases and work collaboratively with stakeholders to mitigate risk
- Engage family members in the household to determine support needs and risks associated to the child protection concerns
- Identify, develop and maintain case plans and goals with families so underlying child protection concerns are addressed within timeframes
- Work with perpetrators of violence, survivors/thrivors
- Provide advice and training to the Intensive Family Support team related to domestic and family violence
- Facilitate domestic violence practice sessions with the Intensive Family Support team
- Participate in domestic violence related steering committees and working groups
To make a difference in this role, you will have:
- Experience in working with families experiencing domestic and family violence
- Substantial working knowledge of issues associated with families at risk of entering the child protection system
- Experience and knowledge of the Safe and Together model
- A track record in conducting assessments
- Ability to plan and facilitate working groups and practice sessions
- A tertiary qualification in human services or a related field
