About The Opportunity
SWSLHD is looking for a driven, empathetic and dedicated clinician to join the Community Counselling and Intake Team.
You will be a skilled problem solver who has strong analytical skills. Your critical thinking will form the basis of your clinical assessments and you will be well versed in understanding the requirement of escalating risk. Your experience in Drug and Alcohol intervention will ensure you can provide a high standard of evidence-based counselling for clients as you will be required to complete drug and alcohol assessments, risk assessment screening and client treatment plans. As a skilled communicator you will be able to provide therapeutic interventions, liaise professionally with service providers and be a strong advocate for your patients.

You will be working within a supportive, multidisciplinary team that focus heavily on working together to achieve a cohesive team. There are regular debriefs, catch ups and clinical reviews so you are continually supported within your role. What you’ll be doing
The primary purpose of the Community Counselling and Intake Team is to reduce drug related harm and provide a high standard of clinical care to those that access Drug Health Services. The team is responsible for providing;
- a community based counselling services for people with drug and alcohol issues, and,
- the coordinate and manage of the centralised intake service for Drug Health Services.
Drug Health Services provides a range of counselling and psychological interventions in a safe and caring environment. Counsellors can help clients and their families understand and manage some of the complex issues that relate to substance use.
Counselling can be undertaken before, after or at the same time as other drug health treatments.
Services are available at Tahmoor, Rosemeadow, Narellan, Ingleburn, Wollondilly, Bankstown, Cabramatta, Fairfield and Liverpool. [‘
How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.
- Tertiary qualification as a Registered Psychologist, Social Worker, Counsellor, or Welfare Officer, which provides eligibility for membership with a professional organisation and or current registration with AHPRA where applicable
- Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, case management and counselling within a drug and alcohol service.
- Knowledge of the harm reduction approach to drug and alcohol issues and demonstrated experience in the provision of interventions with drug dependent clients.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of communication skills, including the development of person centered care plans and facilitating clinical consultation with other health professionals.
- Demonstrated experience in being able to provide therapeutic interventions for clients within a counselling service.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to implement quality improvement processes.
- Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
