An exciting and fulfilling opportunity exists for an experienced Social Worker, Counsellor or Psychologist with a strong interest in working alongside and improving the lives and wellbeing of people experiencing drug and alcohol issues and their families to join the supportive, experienced and dedicated Brookvale Drug and Alcohol Community Counselling team.

Where you’ll be working
The position will be initially placed within the North Shore/Ryde D&A Community Counselling Team, at Royal North Shore Community Health Centre for service orientation and on-boarding. Upon successful completion of orientation processes, the position will then be placed within the Northern Beaches Drug and Alcohol Community Counselling Service, located at Brookvale Community Health Centre, 612/624/ Pittwater Road Brookvale NSW 2100.

 

What you’ll be doing

MHDA Statement of Intention
The intention of the NSLHD MHDA is to provide recovery-oriented, trauma informed services that are guided by evidence based practices and collaboration.
 

With a strong interest in and commitment to improving the lives and wellbeing of people experiencing drug and alcohol issues and their families, you will be providing client centred evidence based counselling strategies and quality management of clinical situations for assessment and counselling for drug and alcohol clients and their families with or without mental health co-morbidities.  You will also be working collaboratively and from a service integrated approach with internal and external services/stakeholders and provide client referral and consultancy with appropriate agencies.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. Recognised qualifications suitable for a mental health professional in Psychology, Social Worker or Counsellor with current registration through the relevant Professional Board of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, or eligibility for Membership for Social Workers with the AASW. For Social Work and Counsellor, must hold as a minimum a bachelor’s degree or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  3. Demonstrated current clinical knowledge and experience to effectively manage clinical issues in the assessment and treatment of people with drug and alcohol problems.
  4. Previous experience in the assessment and/or management of people with co-morbid substance use disorders and mental health problems.
  5. Experience in health promotion, quality projects, accreditation and ability to help with research.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, liaise with key stakeholders and provide education to other health professionals, and the boarder community on drug and alcohol issues.
  7. Sound communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to document accurately, write clearly and succinctly, and consult effectively with others.
  8. Competency in the use of information and communication technology, including standard office software, for email, internet , analysis of clinical data, and clinical documentation. Hold a current NSW Driver’s Licence.
