DV Case Worker (Identified role) Housing Plus

JOB DESCRIPTION

Housing Plus is a leading Not For Profit Community Services Provider with a 40 year history, providing housing, domestic violence, homelessness and other community services in NSW. With offices in Orange, Bathurst, Mudgee, Dubbo and Parkes and services reaching the Central, Western and Hunter regions of NSW, our purpose is to achieve healthy, engaged and vibrant communities in which individuals enjoy opportunities to thrive and build a promising future for their families.

The Orchard in Bathurst is a state-of-the-art emergency accommodation centre for women and their children escaping domestic violence.

We are looking for a Case Worker to provide best practice support services to women and children residing at the Orchard, with a focus on supporting our Aboriginal clients.

Working alongside our other DV Services, responsibilities will include:

  • Providing information, support and advocacy for victims;
  • Risk assessments and safety planning;
  • Making warm referrals to other services;
  • Attending court on list days;
  • Developing links with local Aboriginal communities to promote our services;
  • Developing strong networks and relationships with other service providers, particularly those that respond to the needs of Aboriginal women and children;
  • Assisting with the day to day operations of the Orchard, ensuring the facility is a safe and welcoming space for all women and their children to live during their stay

To be successful, you will require strong experience in the Domestic and Family Violence and Social Services sector; proven ability to professionally and sensitively deliver client services to clients experiencing emotional distress; well-developed communication skills; demonstrated experience identifying key stakeholders and establishing effective relationships, and strong community engagement skills.

Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement of this role. An Aboriginal person is defined under section 4 (1) of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) as a person who: 

  • is a member of the Aboriginal race of Australia, and 
  • identifies as an Aboriginal person, and (c) is accepted by the Aboriginal community as an Aboriginal person. 

Being a woman is also a genuine occupational qualification for this role under s.31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

You will also need a current Driver’s Licence and ability to obtain a Police Check and Working with Children Check.
