Coast Shelter is a leading Central Coast not for profit charity assisting families, adults and young people with complex issues arising from their experience of homelessness, abuse and neglect. We are a Tier 3 community housing body and the largest Specialist Homelessness Service in Regional NSW. We operate 9 crisis shelters, a Community Centre and more than 50 outreach properties, housing over 150 people across the Central Coast every night.

The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and skilled DV – Children and Youth Case Worker to join our Women & Children’s services team which operates 3 shelters and a Domestic & Family Violence Rapid Response Program across the Central Coast.
This newly created position will be responsible for providing high quality and effective case management and support for children and young people aged under 16 years of age. The position ensures children and young people impacted by DFV are provided with a package of support that is tailored to their individual needs and circumstances and that will assist them to reach positive outcomes for their ongoing health and wellbeing.
The position is 12 months fixed term with the possibility of extension.
All about you
You have a background and passion for working with Women & Children within homelessness and domestic and family violence services. You focus on working within a clear, client centered, trauma informed framework and have a demonstrated understanding of child protection, parenting and family work and family violence. You have Knowledge of child surveillance (warnings sign of delayed development) & child development (cognitive, physical, emotional),
To be considered for the position you must be able to address the essential criteria below;
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in related discipline, bachelor level or higher and/or relevant sector experience
- Demonstrated ability in working with children and young people with complex needs and to support them in challenging situations
- Demonstrated casework and assessment experience
- Experience of working in accordance with person centred practice and trauma responsive care principles
- Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development
