Experienced Mental Health Support Worker: Immediate Start Core Disability Network

JOB DESCRIPTION

The role:
Providing exceptional support to participants in their homes and in the community with complex mental illness, current and past substance abuse, poverty and other social problems. Activities include personal care, domestic tasks, transport, social assistance, organising appointments and ensuring attendance. 

This role will entail workers to:

  • Have the skill set to identify when participants are escalating and re direct or deescalate where appropriate
  • Work off recovery and safety plans
  • Work alongside a range of stakeholders to ensure the safety of the participant. i.e.: community mental health, parole officers and OT to name a few.

You must have:

  • A qualification in or lived experience with mental health (or working towards one)
  • NDIS Worker Screening/ National Police Clearance (within 6 months)
  • Proof of working rights – passport; birth certificate; visa
  • Drivers Licence
  • A reliable vehicle with comprehensive car insurance
  • First Aid and CPR qualifications (or willing to obtain)

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience with Mental Health and PTSD and Schizoaffective disorders
  • Experience as a support worker in the health/disability sector.
