JOB DESCRIPTION

The Kalwun Child & Family Support Services division administers the Family Wellbeing Service, Family Participation Program, Early Learning Program & Foster & Kinship Care programs within the South East QLD region. We are currently looking to fill the position of Family & Domestic Violence Practitioner.

About the role:

This position will respond to people experiencing and living with family and domestic violence and particularly identifying and supporting women and children at high risk. This includes:

  • Respond to referrals from ATSI and mainstream services following an incident of family violence
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning
  • Schedule and conduct ongoing case management
  • Provide advocacy, referrals, information and support.

Qualifications & experience

  • Experience working in crisis support;
  • Qualification in Community Services (minimum Cert 3) or equivalent, or demonstrated knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and working with women and children in a variety of settings;
  • Experience working within ATSI community;
  • Ability to network and develop effective working relationships at all levels of the community;
  • Child protection knowledge and experience beneficial – not essential.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proven ability to work co-operatively in a small team environment and independently;
  • Capacity to adapt to the evolving nature of the role and to identify and influence systemic change.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative.
  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex-needs families in the context of family and community violence and to engage with them to work collaboratively to achieve agreed upon goals.
  • An ability to undertake case management tasks, such as assessment, referral, case planning, case review and exit planning.
  • An understanding of the range of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal services in the areas of family violence, child welfare, health, education, housing and well-being.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cohesive, responsible and dynamic team.

Hourly rate between $34.00 – $36.50 per hour dependent on qualifications and experience.

Additional Information

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check, hold a current drivers’ license and hold a blue card for working with children. The ‘No Card No Start‘ law applies to this position – a blue card must be obtained prior to commencement.
