About the Organisation:
Ishar has been in existence for 30 years and is an organisation of women supporting women, with an all-female Board of Management, and all-female staff assisting women and their families from across the world.
Ishar provides health and wellbeing services for women, particularly those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, using a ‘Social Model of Health’ in which the presenting ‘medical’ condition is not separated from the interconnections of personal, social, economic, cultural, age and gender related problems. Women are provided with information, advice, counselling, training, advocacy and /or support so they are empowered to deal with their own problems.
About the Role
Ishar is seeking a full-time FDV Team leader with experience working with women from a migrant background.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social worker to lead a small team of Social Workers and Counsellors to deliver support to women from refugee and migrant backgrounds who are experiencing FDV.
This role ensures the smooth functioning of the FDV Services and triage FDV and Mental Health referrals. You will also provide outreach services and supervise a small team of Social Workers and University students on placement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide outreach services to clients experiencing FDV
- Assess and triage clients who require internal/external mental health support
- Track client referrals and manage the social workers workload
- Provide supervision to Social Workers and University student on placement
- Manage the waitlist
- Update protocols and procedures to ensure the smooth functioning of the FDV service.
- Assist Manager with the collation of statistics for monthly reports, annual reports, and other reports as necessary.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Tertiary education to degree level with relevant experience in Social Work/ Mental Health/Counselling. Proof of registration with the relevant board.
- Demonstrate working with the organization’s values
- Demonstrate experience working with women from CaLD backgrounds facing challenging situations.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of referring system
- Experience in planning and implementing educational/support groups.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to the workplace and good writing and evaluation skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Current Police clearance (one-year validity period is acceptable).
- Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License and own road-worthy vehicle.
- Current road-worthy Children Check
- Up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination
- Full unrestricted working rights in Australia
Desirable
- Fluent in a language other than English.
- Experience and an understanding of the not for profit community setting preferably with a CaLD orientation.
- Experience working with interpreters.
