Exciting opportunity for a Family and Youth Worker! Mental health and psychosocial support done differently in a two worker model!

The Redcliffe Area Youth Space (RAYS) is seeking a passionate and committed family & youth worker.  We are hoping to meet client-centred, hard working and innovative professionals from a variety of relevant backgrounds to join a team delivering mental health services for young people aged 12-25 who are often vulnerable, disengaged and have experienced or are experiencing significant trauma and poverty. Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to proactively engage disengaged young people with a severe mental illness, or young people who may be at risk of a severe mental illness. This role will require some work out of business hours, home visits and a strong focus and understanding of psychosocial support and community participation outcomes.  This program is a two-worker model, and actively partners clinicians with family & youth workers to ensure a holistic service.

 

Job tasks and responsibilities

About the role

This position is to deliver an outreach based, clinical mental health program for young people aged 12 – 25 years. The position will work closely with a number of Clinical Worker roles.  The program design prioritises youth engagement and relationship building as the means of achieving outcomes.  As such, a flexible approach to service delivery will be expected.  Workers will be expected to undertake home visits and/or sessions in other places in the community such as schools, cafes or parks.  While the program is clinical in nature, it will have a strong focus on social inclusion/community participation outcomes to maintain recovery and prevent relapse. Ensuring high levels of wrap around support will drive this role.  This will include working with families and carers and liaising closely with a number of internal and external stakeholders.  Family and Youth workers will be expected to coordinate and lead care coordination/case conferencing meetings.  

 

The position is based at the Redcliffe Area Youth Space, with outreach occurring across the Moreton Bay region.  Salary packaging to the value of $15,900 pa available.  A 9 day fortnight can be negotiated + 5 weeks annual leave. 

 

Skills and experience

Requirements of the Role

Four year degree with relevant experience or three year degree with two years of relevant experience (such as social work, community development, etc.)

Knowledge and experience in recovery oriented practice, a biopsychosocial approach

Extensive experience in youth engagement

Extensive experience in working with families

Experience in case conferencing/care coordination

Robust knowledge of and experience in social inclusion/community participation outcomes with young people

Ability to work flexibly

Ability to work outside of business hours on occasions
