Family Case Coordinator YCSS

You are genuinely motivated to help children, young people and families who are involved with the child protection system achieve their aspiration of a safe, nurturing and cohesive family home. Experienced in case management, you will have a proven ability to support complex families who are at critical junctures in their lives. Building rapport is a key skill of yours and you feel safe and confident engaging and connecting with people from an array of diverse backgrounds. You have the necessary skillset to empower families to recognise and respond to the needs of their children while understanding that KKATs families are the experts in their own lives. You are resilient, a critical and creative thinker and able to provide kind, clear and direct guidance and support to staff. In turn, you are comfortable with taking on feedback in relation to your own professional development and growth and don’t just speak to your values, you live them.

About the Role:

The Family Case Coordinator (FCCO)

  1. Liaises with the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs and delegates across service centres in the South-East, South-West and Moreton regions of greater Brisbane
  2. Attends and coordinates stakeholder meetings with various agencies and external stakeholders involved with the families KKAT serves
  3. Undertakes robust assessment and goal-planning throughout the intervention period along with the completion of various reports and documentation including comprehensive transition and exit reporting
  4. Continuously assesses the physical, emotional and psychological safety and best interests of children and young people
  5. Implements safety planning and risk management protocols for staff and families
  6. Provides clear and purposeful coordination, guidance, practice and de-brief support to Family Support Workers, along with low-level performance management of staff
  7. Uses KKATs practice framework to guide and inform intervention work
  8. Engages in direct work with families on a weekly basis
  9. Communicates professionally, confidently and with influence to stakeholders and colleagues and in accordance with YCSS policies and procedures
  10. Adheres to YCSS and KKAT specific policies and procedures along with the legislative intent and requirements of the Child Protection Act 1999, the Human Rights Act 2019 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child et al

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant degree qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Social Science or Education with at least 3 years of demonstrated work experience in case management
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of case management processes with a view to delivering outcomes and meeting requirements as outlined in departmental case plans
  • Demonstrated understanding of childhood trauma and trauma-based behaviours and emotional responses, transgenerational trauma, domestic and family violence, substance misuse and poverty and how this impacts children and families
  • Demonstrated ability to work from a strengths-based, collaborative approach with families, colleagues and stakeholders
  • Leadership skills and the ability to provide guidance, de-brief support, low-level performance management and mentoring to Family Support Workers
  • Professional, acts with integrity and fairness and has a strong sense of social justice
  • Strong understanding of risk management and safety planning
  • Strong administration skills including excellent written and oral communication, working knowledge of Word suite, database maintenance and other basic IT system
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to meet requisite deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to manage crisis situations and remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to be positive, flexible, open-minded and solution-focused

This role is located at YCSS Head Office, Beenleigh.
