JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client is dedicated to serving communities in the Northern Territory by promoting strong family bonds, emotional well-being, and community unity. We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Family Counsellor to join the team and work across a range of family and community programs aimed at strengthening family relationships.

Position Overview:
As a Full-Time Family Counsellor, you will play a vital role in providing culturally sensitive and empathetic counselling services to children, families, caregivers, and couples within Indigenous and non-indigenous communities in the Northern Territory. Your primary responsibility will be to reduce the emotional, social, and economic costs associated with disruptions to family relationships through individual and group counseling interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally appropriate individual and group counseling services to children, families, caregivers, and couples.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to understand the unique needs, challenges, and strengths of each client or family unit.
  • Develop and implement customized treatment plans that focus on improving emotional well-being, enhancing family relationships, and addressing any social and economic barriers.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, elders, and organizations to build trust and engage with the community effectively.
  • Ensure that counseling approaches and interventions are culturally sensitive and respect the values, traditions, and beliefs of the Indigenous communities.
  • Facilitate workshops and educational sessions on topics related to family dynamics, communication, and emotional well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Work closely with other professionals and agencies to provide holistic support to families, including referrals when necessary.
  • Stay updated on best practices in family counseling and participate in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional registration (if applicable).
  • Proven experience in family counseling or similar field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust within the community.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
