PERMANENT PART TIME FAMILY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ADVOCATE REQUIRED

Founded in 1980, Indigo Junction (formerly known as Swan Emergency Accommodation) is a not-for-profit organisation providing homelessness services to youth, families and the local community in the north-eastern suburbs of Perth. Our understanding of generational poverty, and the impact it has on quality of life within a community, drives our current approach of delivering a range of services that are accessible and responsive in times of crisis.

We are now seeking an experienced Family and Domestic Violence Advocate to join our team!

POSITION: PPT Family Domestic Violence Advocate

LOCATION: Midland area

Position Purpose

The Family Domestic Violence Advocate, under the supervision and guidance of the Operations Manager work across Indigo Junction services. The purpose is to increase the capacity of women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence to live safely and independently in the community

To succeed in the role, you will have the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, mentoring skills, a fantastic positive outlook, a desire to work with vulnerable community members. You will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills supplimenting your ability to coordinate a variety of services around the individual and their family needs.

Key Responsibilities

Case Management

• Engage in case management and ongoing casework with women and children in the aftermath of domestic violence

Advocacy and Referral

• Provide information, resources, referrals and advocacy for women and children to ensure their needs are met

Administration

• Maintain records, data information and reports in accordance with agency requirements

• Comply with all privacy, equal opportunity and occupational health and safety requirements

• Adhere to the Strategic Plan and all Policies and Procedures of the organisation

• Participate in professional supervision, team meetings, training and working groups as required

Community Education

• Assist in the identification, development and delivery of community training and education programs regarding domestic and family violence.

Interagency Working

• Participate in interagency coordination and maintain good working relationships with local agencies and networks

• Work in an ethical and professional manner at all times as a representative of the Organisation

Other

• Promote and implement safety strategies for all clients, colleagues and yourself

• Model and promote trauma informed practices.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Knowledge and experience of intervention work and case management with women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
  • Ability to develop networks and advocate strongly on behalf of clients and their children in domestic and family violence situations.
  • Strong trauma informed work practices.
  • Knowledge of community and government resources available to families and ability to work collaboratively with them.
  • A high standard of communication and interpersonal skills including record keeping, report writing, collection of statistical data and computer literacy.
  • Ability to work using your own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational and time management skills and the ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Working with Children Act 2004 Criminal Record Check.
  • A current Driver’s License.
