The Role

The Family Intervention practitioner (FIP) will be responsible for providing an intensive in-home support service through assessment, counselling skills, reunification, education/training and therapeutic interventions with children, young people and their families/carers where a child remains living at home and subject to ongoing intervention and monitoring by Child Safety Services or where a child is being reunified to their family from an out-of-home care placement. 

 

The key objective of this position is to support clients of Child Safety Service Centres where ongoing intervention with a family is required, to assist clients to exit the child protection system and prevent families from re-entering the system.  This position also respects and reflects the Society’s mission.

 

This position requires staff to work in compliance with the Human Services Quality Framework and the Child Protection Act 1999. Staff are also required to adhere to the Society’s Child Protection Framework at all times.

 

 

To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or Behavioral Science
  • A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience in similar programs will be well regarded
  • Proficient in MS Office programs
  • Experience in working with at-risk children, young people, and families, who are subject to child protection statutory interventions
  • Effective knowledge of Intensive Family Preservation and Intensive Family Reunification models of practice
  • Ability in working within boundaries and well-developed task management skills
  • Demonstrates a high degree of motivation, initiative, and creativity
  • Contribute positively within a team environment
  • Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
  • Understanding of risk management principles including current WHS legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
  • The successful candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete pre-employment checks which will include a National Criminal History Records Check
  • The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Blue Card
  • A COVID-19 vaccination certificate is required in accordance with the Queensland Government Workers in a Healthcare Setting (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements) Directive
