About Us

Girudala Community Cooperative Society Ltd is a member owned Indigenous community organisation that runs programs in the areas of affordable housing, health promotion, Commonwealth Home Support and Family Wellbeing.

Our Family Wellbeing Program exists to address the over representation of Indigenous families in the Child Safety system. We offer support, information, advice and referrals for at-risk families to reduce their involvement in the Child Protection system.

About The Role

The Family Participation Program (FPP) role exists to facilitate Family Led Decision Making processes – whereby parents, extended families and children work together with Department of Child Safety representatives to problem solve and create culturally safe plans to protect children and families rights to stay together or reunify. 

Within the role you will be required to:

  • build culturally appropriate relationships and generate culturally safe spaces for families to reflect on their strengths and challenges
  • develop strategies to act on and address care or safety concerns of the Department
  • prepare, coordinate and facilitate the Family Led Decision Making Process – drawing on strengths, knowledge and resources to feel empowered to make informed decisions on how to keep their families safe and together
  • Work professionally and with confidentiality – adhering to organisational objectives at all times
  • Facilitate family and stakeholder meetings in homes and communities utilizing cultural protocols

About You

  • Open C class Manual Drivers Licence
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or ability to gain
  • Clear National Police Check or ability to gain
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values, and ways of doing business

Selection Criteria

  1. This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position and candidates will be required to provide confirmation of heritage.
  2. Cert IV in Child Protection, Community Services, or related fields or ability to gain 
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families, and children specifically in relation to the placement of Aboriginal children and young people in care.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 and hold a high-level of knowledge of the Child Protection System and Child Placement Principle
  5. Demonstrated ability to assess the individual needs of children, young people, and their families.
  6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with relevant community and government organisations.
