Family Peer Worker Orygen

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Family Peer Worker will offer empathetic listening, provide support and information, and peer support drawing on their own experience of supporting their own children, young adult family members with mental ill health. You will be self-motivated and will demonstrate a sound ability to engage with a range of people.
  
Reporting to the Family Peer Worker Lead, you will:

  • Offer informal drop-in and appointment-based services for Friends & Family (FAF) of young people who attend Headspace.
  • Provide assistance with linking FAF into other family support, mental health, AOD and other relevant services in their area.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and FPW team members (e.g. from other centres) to develop a range of family inclusive activities such as morning teas, information sessions, wellbeing workshops, community awareness presentations and other relevant events.
  • Use recovery and intentional peer support frameworks to guide their work.

What you’ll need

You are passionate, energetic and determined to make a difference to health and wellbeing outcomes for young people. The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • A personal experience of supporting a child and/or young adult family member who is/was experiencing mental ill health or alcohol and other drugs.
  • Capacity and willingness to conduct groups with FAF.
  • Experience in the planning and provision of community engagement and capacity building activities.
  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people, families and stakeholders.
