The Role

The Family Mental Health Support Service is based at Murray Bridge and provides early intervention support to vulnerable families with children and young people aged 0-18 years who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing, mental illness. The program provides outreach services to the following areas: Murray, Mid Murray, Coorong and Mallee.

Our Service is client centered client focused using strength-based approaches working within a trauma informed Care model and we value the opportunity to work with our clients and families to support them to reach their full potential.

The Family Practitioner will provide one on one counselling for clients and their families in home, school or office and, work in partnership with clients and their families in case planning, goal setting and the creation of a Family Action Plan.

This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity (a subsequent fixed-term period may be offered subject to funding).

What you need to bring

     Essential 

  • Degree in Social Work or a related discipline
  • Experience working with vulnerable families with children and young people who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing, mental illness
  • Valid Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check (previously known as ‘Child-Related Employment Screening Clearance’).
  • Valid Driver’s Licence 
  • Available and able to work outside of standard hours when required.

     Desirable

  • Experience delivering therapeutic interventions including one on one and group work
  • Experience in mental health promotion/education and community development activities
  • Experience working in regional areas
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people
  • Experience using Penelope client records management software
  • Experience in the community services sector and/or not-for-profit sector
