PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

The purpose of the position is to:

  • Deliver training modules on family violence, gender equality, and other subjects which may create emotional impact, and drive culture change.
  • Writing and developing training modules that support the purpose of this role.
  • Provide training that promotes GAC as an environment that is safe for people: where there is no assault, challenge, or denial of their identity, of who they are and what they need. It is also including shared respect, shared meaning, shared knowledge and experience, of learning, living and working together with dignity and truly listening.
  • Reviewing and providing practice uplift advice for existing and new GAC family violence programs and policies.
  • Assessing and prioritising a range of family violence training needs across GAC.
  • Formulating a strategic approach to meet GAC Family Violence and Cultural Awareness training needs. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver Family Violence and Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training to adult learners, in person and via remote delivery (eg Microsoft Teams, Zoom,), that is culturally safe and effective, through understanding trauma informed practice and that some participants will have lived experience of family and/or sexual violence or other trauma.
  • Design, develop, and continually refine a range of Family Violence and Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training modules customised to the learning needs of GAC workforce in line with the:
  •  Victorian Responding to Family Violence Capability Framework; and
  • Aboriginal Cultural Awareness (up to formal accreditation standard), specific to local mob.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and thorough awareness of research in family violence Aboriginal Cultural Awareness best practice and theory, and incorporate this knowledge into reviews, advice, and training.
  • Develop and maintain a current knowledge of Victorian family violence sector reforms, including the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) framework and Information Sharing Schemes reforms, and how they relate to working within the GAC community.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, contribute family violence and Aboriginal Cultural Awareness subject matter expertise to the work of the Strong Community team.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external strategic relationships with key stakeholders including GAC teams, as well as government departments, professional bodies, and non-government organisations.
  • Collect, analyse, and share training participant feedback and data for internal evaluation and audit purposes.
  • Develop and coordinate Gunditjmara specific Family Safety and Healing and Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training packages to meet holistic needs of community.
  • Deliver training packages to upskill existing staff to deliver multiple service delivery strategies to break the cycle of Family Violence and increase understanding of the rich culture and issues through Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with local Aboriginal community and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Gunditjmara staff, external stakeholders, and local Aboriginal communities to ensure resources are culturally appropriate for this region
  • Work within project parameters to ensure reporting requirements are delivered.
  • Collate Gunditjmara social health data into actionable activities, events, and educational programs. 
  • Evaluate learning and programmatic outcomes to inform data-driven decision-making to design the packages and training.
  • Provide administrative support to the Strong Community Team as required.

FAMILY VIOLENCE

Undertake the appropriate level of The Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM) training. The level of training will be determined by GAC and will be based on your level of responsibility.

The training will allow the incumbent to:

  • Respectfully, sensitively, and safely engage with clients.
  • Identify family violence.

Where family violence is suspected, the incumbent will discretely advise their manager who will then refer the matter to the appropriate family violence practitioner.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) or willingness to undertake.
  • Previous experience as a trainer, corporate training specialist, or related position.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and evaluating training for adult learners.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in family violence dynamics, theory, and best practice, ideally through practice experience working with family violence victim survivors and or perpetrators. 
  • Experience working with Aboriginal Elders, providing practical and culturally safe advice and linkage to health and community services.
  • Sound knowledge of Cultural Safety in practice and a willingness to learn.
  • Understanding and commitment to Aboriginal health, Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related field and/or relevant experience.
  • Experience with commissioning services to address identified needs and gaps in health care.
  • Experience managing the implementation of community-based health programs and projects.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work effectively.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in facilitating engaging and informative training sessions to adult learners.
  • Experience with common computing applications, e.g. Excel, Word, Database, SharePoint.
  • Current valid Victorian driver’s licence.

Specific Conditions/Restrictions

  • Must comply with reference and qualification checks prior to employment (and present originals of qualification updates for copying and updating of training registers).

  • Able to pass and maintain:
    • A National Police check (at the organisation’s expense).
    • A Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (at the organisation’s expense).
    • Other probity checks as may be mandated from time-to-time.
    • Current Victorian Driver’s License. 
  • This role may require some out-of-hours’ work.
