Established in 1979 by the Ballarat Aboriginal community in the Ballarat district, BADAC’s vision is to be the strongest voice and presence in the Ballarat area, supporting and respecting their people, enhancing our community, growing their culture and honouring their heritage. BADAC is the Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation (ACCO) for the Ballarat and District area, covering 4 local government areas (LGAs). The organisation is extremely proud of the contribution and support they have provided the local Aboriginal community over the past 40 years delivering a comprehensive range of health, social, welfare and community development programs to local Aboriginal people.

The Opportunity
We are currently looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed Family Safety Contact Worker to join our team on a Permanent Part Time basis (22.5 hours per week).
The Family Safety Contact Worker will provide support to victim/survivors who are partners/ex-partners or family members of clients who are currently participating in BADAC’s Persons Using Violence (PUV) Case Management Program. The role includes safety planning, advocacy, referral and ongoing support to clients within the program. The purpose of the role is to enhance safety of impacted family members and victim/survivors. The role will also include supporting the Aboriginal team in the Orange Door with practical tasks at times as well as linking with BADAC’s Community Connections Worker.
A sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture and the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people is an important element for this position.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with victim/survivors of family violence to enhance safety and provide support.
- Undertake ongoing risk assessment and development of strategies to address risk for family members affected by family violence.
- Provide crisis management and support for victim/survivors and family members who have experienced or are currently experiencing family violence.
- Liaise with BADAC’s Family Violence staff in particular those from the PUV team for further support and engagement within the PUV case management program.
- Provide secondary consultation regarding clients experiencing family violence.
- Maintain adequate data file records and adhere to DHHS standards.
- In alignment with the organisation’s holistic health principle, ensure referrals (where appropriate) are made within BADAC and to other external agencies.
- Maintain current knowledge of family violence legislation, regulations, theories and frameworks.
- Provide support as required and link with the Orange Door Aboriginal Team and BADAC’s Community Connections Workers.
- Maintain strict standards of confidentiality & act at all times in a professional manner in accordance with BADAC policies & procedures and in accordance with the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS) and Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) principles.
- Complete other duties as required by Team Leader/Program Manager.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Sound knowledge of the issues & needs of the local Aboriginal community, including the impact of family violence within Aboriginal communities.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and the ability to effectively communicate with and advocate for Aboriginal people and their families.
- Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively and appropriately communicate with families, victim/survivors and perpetrators.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, presentations, facilitation skills.
- Proven experience working with families in crisis.
- Extensive experience within a range of assessment, intervention, and case management skills, and an understanding of the key issues involved for women and children experiencing family violence.
- Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Welfare of or equivalent qualification and experience.
- A sound knowledge of the FVISS, CISS, and MARAM framework.
