About the role

cohealth offers Integrated Family Services as part of a range of services offered to families and children.

The Family Services Parental Coach will work as part of the Steps to Confident Parenting Program and provide support to parents, who have an intellectual disability and/or complex needs, to keep their children, safe, healthy, and well cared for within their home and community environment.

The position is based in Braybrook however work will include some outreach in people’s homes and in other settings.

Your duties include:

  • Provide appropriate wellbeing support, tailored to a family’s needs to work toward desired change
  • Facilitate a strength-based approach and ongoing assessment which supports knowledge and understanding of a child’s needs, age and stage of development
  • Manage risk according to the “Best Interests” framework, address any protective concerns, and where necessary liaise and consult with Community Base Child Protection
  • Provide practical assistance and parental coaching to develop appropriate routines, positive family functioning schedules, boundary setting, natural and logical consequences
  • Work together with families to improve community connections and access to community resources

Our ideal candidate:

  • A tertiary qualification in fields related to social work, health or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with families who may have a range of complex needs
  • An understanding of the Best Interest Framework
  • A demonstrated understanding of child development and how trauma, abuse or neglect can impact

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Police Check, a Working With Children Check (WWCC), complete a Statutory Declaration, evidence of legal rights to work in Australia, and evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 (3 doses). Additionally, some roles will also require current AHPRA registration and/or NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.

Roles that are determined to be Risk Category A or B [staff that have direct and/or indirect contact with body substances and are at higher risk of occupational exposure to infections] will be required to provide evidence of immunisation assessment including Influenza prior to commencement [A] or within 12 weeks of commencement [B]. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health Mandatory Vaccination Orders for COVID-19 and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
