About BDAC

BDAC is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).

BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to the Dja Dja Wurrung Community (Jaara people) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents living on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. 

BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services, development of our Aboriginal community, better and improved health outcomes for our people, improved quality of life and be a lead agency in providing employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.

The Position

The Intensive Family Services Practitioner will support families to consider the changes that need to occur for children to remain safe in their own homes. The position will provide intensive outreach and in-home support to families.

The Intensive Family Services Practitioner will participate in comprehensive family assessments that identify the health, wellbeing and safety needs of the children involved, and that identify both the capacity and constraints of the families to make necessary changes.

Some Key Responsibilities

• Support the strengthening of family connections, promoting placement prevention and promoting the safety of children, young people and parents
• To participate in the development of comprehensive family plans using a wraparound approach and participation in ongoing review and evaluation of family plans
• To actively participate in team work in a manner that ensures a co-ordinated approach to services for children, young people and their families
• To work in conjunction with existing services to ensure that referrals are responded to in a way that acknowledges the unique needs of each referral and situation by matching resources to referral information.

Your skills and experience

• Ability to effectively and efficiently plan and organise own work and responsibilities
• Sound knowledge of local issues and needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
• Knowledge of the Children’s, Youth and Families Act 2005
• Experience in case planning and case notes writing
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Demonstrated negotiation and advocacy skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with children, young people and families’ already in contact or at risk of contact with Child Protection services 

Preferred / Desired Education, Training and/or Competencies 

• Diploma of Community Development or equivalent
• Qualification in a Social Welfare discipline or equivalent (Cert III minimum)
