Who are we?
Queensland Homicide Victims’ Support Group (QHVSG) was established in 1995 by families affected by homicide, and offers a counselling and case management approach tailored for each person’s specific needs and situation. We know that there is a critical need for support to cope with the trauma of murder or manslaughter.
QHVSG recognises the value of being supported by experienced counsellors as well as people with a lived experience of homicide (Peer Supporters). Our teams offer counselling, education, advocacy, and support through the aftermath of homicide using an integrated approach via these two unique programs.
Our teams work closely with the Queensland Police Service, Department of Public Prosecutors, and Victim Assist Queensland as well as numerous other services to ensure families access the help they need.
About the role
This full-time position is for an experienced case worker who also has demonstrated success in counselling. These skills will be utilised to provide support for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one to homicide.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision of case management services based on needs assessments;
- Provision of information, advice and/or referral about any specific services available that respond to the needs of the client;
- To work collaboratively with the Peer Support Coordinator to engage relevant service users in Peer Support activities for the exchange of information, the sharing of experiences, the meeting of common needs and/or gaining access to social, therapeutic, and practical support;
- To ensure accuracy within client record keeping and compliance to confidentiality and privacy guidelines;
- To attend QHVSG events that may occur on weekends and / or evenings;
- To ensure compliance to policies, procedures and Codes of Conduct.

To be successful you will need
- Tertiary qualifications in Counselling or psychology or social work
- A minimum of two years demonstrated experience as a case manager in complex family and social environments.A minimum of two years’ counselling experience.
- A current Working with Children Suitability Card and Police Check (or ability to obtain).
- A current Open QLD Drivers Licence.
