Family Support Coordinator The Girls and Boys Brigade

JOB DESCRIPTION

About The Girls & Boys Brigade

Since 1882, The Girls & Boys Brigade (GBB) has provided a welcoming, safe place for children and youth who need a helping hand.  Based in Surry Hills, our programs are open to children, youth and their families living within the City of Sydney LGA.  The families who access our services experience a wide range of financial, social, educational and housing challenges.  We believe that all children and young people deserve a bright future and that they can advance despite adversity.

About the role

The Family Support Program exists to provide holistic well-being support to families of enrolled children and youth. To do so, the Family Support Program is delivered through three key support areas: Tailored Client Support, GBB Family Well-Being and Community Advocacy and Networking.

By supporting a child’s family, the Family Support Program works alongside its other programs to achieve positive outcomes for children and youth in their main development and support environment: their families.

You will use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to plan and deliver Family Support direct programs, including:

  • tailored, client-centred case management support to families of enrolled children and youth
  • psychoeducation workshops
  • skill-building opportunities
  • family activities and events

Additionally, the role will support the Programs Team in the development of resources and referral pathways for children and youth, working alongside and providing practical and emotional support in line with their knowledge and expertise.

Benefits and perks

The team at The Girls & Boys Brigade is small, dynamic and passionate about what they do.

Work/life balance is a priority for the organisation and the role supports hybrid working arrangements.

As the organisation is in a state of evolution, there is the ability to grow and develop.

Salary packaging options including FBT are available.

The role includes external supervision and professional development opportunities.

Skills and experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Welfare or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex caseloads, and effectively plan and prioritise work with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and utilise established referral pathways and use a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to achieve client outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience working with socially and financially disadvantaged children, youth and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal presentation skills, diplomatic and effective liaison, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Office 365 and the ability to create effective digital communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work either independently or collaboratively within a small team and exercise initiative, judgement, discretion and sensitivity in a workplace subject to work pressures and changes.
  • Experience in charity and not-for-profit operations.
  • Experience in community engagement.
  • NSW Working with Children check.
