Family Support Practitioner – Brisbane Act for Kids

Act for Kids is a prominent provider of prevention, professional therapy and support services for children who have suffered abuse and support for families at risk. With over 25 centres nationally, we have supported thousands of children and their families for more than 30 years. In 2021 – 2022 we provided services to 39,002 people, including over 23,000 children.

About the Position…

We are seeking a full time Family Support Practitioner to join our compassionate and friendly team in Kedron until 31 December 2023 with possibility for extension. Extension of employment contract beyond this date is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

This position is about delivering an outreach model of family case-management programs to families, caregivers, kids and young people within Intensive Family Support Team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain a regular case load of client families and regularly attend and participate in case reviews.
  • Engage families, obtain consent, and collaborate to develop case plans addressing child protection concerns.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly review case plans that address worries and build on strengths.
  • Working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies utilising an ecological model.

About you…

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (Social Work, Human Services, Allied Health).
  • Professional registration (if required) and membership of a relevant professional association (desirable).
  • At least two (2) years’ experience providing case-management and therapeutic services to families, caregivers, young people and children in a child protection framework.
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • An ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

About the pay…

  • Position is classified Level 4 under the SCHCADS award.
  • Salary range is $82,046 – $88,288 plus superannuation.

Other requirements…

  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.
  • Current driver’s licence.
