About the job…

We are seeking a dedicated Family Support Practitioner to join our inclusive, compassionate and friendly team based in Cairns.  This position is full-time, fixed term until 30 September 2026. Extension of employment contract beyond this date is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

This position will deliver an outreach model of case management to families with the aim of improving child safety by facilitating social learning, community connectedness, good health and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities…

  • Engage families, obtain consent and develop a case plan with the family which addresses child protection concerns.
  • Maintain a regular case load of client families.
  • Regularly attend and participate in case reviews.
  • Use a variety of tools to assess each family member’s strengths and worries.
  • Build and maintain service level relationships with government and NGOs.
  • Provide timely, quality reports to management.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date data entry records in required databases.

About you… 

Qualifications

  • A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (allied health, social work, human services).
  • Professional registration (if required).
  • Membership of a relevant professional association (desirable).

Skills and experience

  • At least 2 years experience providing case-management and therapeutic services to families, caregivers, young people and children in a child protection framework.
  • An understanding of current child protection legislation and policy reforms.
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Excellent IT skills in electronic database entry of case management information and using standard Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Outlook or similar.

Other requirements

  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Applicants must be eligible to legally work in Australia and proof of eligibility may be requested.
  • Fully vaccinated with the prescribed doses of an approved vaccine against COVID-19 or have an approved medical exemption.

About the pay…

  • Position is classified Level 4 under the SCHCADS award;
  • Salary range is $77,584 – $83,486 plus 10.5% superannuation
  • In addition, as a registered Not for Profit/Charity, we offer excellent salary packaging options through RemServ which can significantly increase your take home pay.
