Family Support Practitioner – Townsville Act for Kids

Act for Kids is a prominent provider of prevention, professional therapy and support services for children who have suffered abuse and support for families at risk. With over 25 centres nationally, we have supported thousands of children and their families for more than 30 years. In 2021 – 2022 we provided services to 39,002 people, including over 23,000 children.

About the Position

We are looking to welcome a Family Support Practitioner to deliver an outreach model of family case-management programs to families, caregivers, kids and young people. This role is to 31 December 2026 with possible extension, subject to continued funding.

This position is classified Level 4 under the SCHCADS award. Salary range is $82,046 – $88,288 plus superannuation.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Maintain a regular case load of client families and regularly attend and participate in case reviews.
  • Engage families, obtain consent, and develop case plans addressing unmet needs and child protection concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure families goals are achieved.
  • Facilitate social learning, community connectedness, good health, and wellbeing.

About You

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (social work, human services, allied health).
  • Professional registration (if required) and membership of a relevant professional association (desirable).
  • At least 2 years’ experience providing case-management and therapeutic services in a child protection framework.
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills in maintaining a case load of clients, including timely record keeping and database entry, as well as meeting clinical supervision and other job requirements

Other Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Working with Children Check or professional exemption.
