I am sure you can understand the impact and challenge families experience if they are at risk of, or are homeless. We are looking for a superstar Family Support Worker to help us do our good work at our family support service, called ‘Bart’s Plus’. We need your help to offer a safe and supportive environment, giving families the time and space they need to rebuild and find long-term solutions.
You will play a vital role helping families in our care undertake their journey towards stability and long-term housing. You are someone who brings a genuine, caring approach to their work and can build strong, trusting relationships with the families in our care, your colleagues and our community partners. You are warm, engaging, approachable and able to create a supportive environment where the people in our care feel heard, respected and empowered.
A day on the job will see you:
- Act as the first point of contact, welcoming families into our program.
- Working closely with families already in our services to ensure a smooth transition into longer term accommodation. This includes supporting them to source viable housing options.
- Work closely with the Team Leader to monitor and assess our client’s progress, helping families achieve their goals set out in their recovery plans.
- Use recovery and trauma informed approaches to meet our client’s needs and respect their individual journeys.
- Facilitate group activities as needed creating a supportive and empowering environment.
- Visit and work with families who remain in our service, but reside in their own housing.
- Provide information about external services and linking them into relevant support.
Your application will go to the top of our shortlist you have:
- Relevant qualification (minimum cert III) in Community Services or similar.
- Experience working with vulnerable families within a residential setting. This will definitely get our attention.
- Knowledge and understanding of social issues that impact vulnerable families and applying a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.
- A positive and engaging approach with a talent in building trust and relationships with the people in our care.
- Knowledge of local services and community partners that may be able to assist our resident’s.

About Us
For 60 years, St Bart’s has supported people experiencing homelessness and severe and persistent mental health issues as they rebuild their lives. We started as a small homeless shelter for men and have grown into a progressive and inclusive organisation providing support to hundreds of Western Australian men, women and families across four key service areas. Our goal is to provide safe, supported accommodation and services to people who need it the most, regardless of background, age, gender or ethnicity.
