About the Role:

We are seeking a values driven Family Violence Advisor to Child Protection (Child Protection Specialist / Family Violence Practitioner) to be responsible for providing operational and strategic advice to Child Protection practitioners and their managers who undertake investigations of families where a child is or may be in need of protection due to family violence.

You will assist Child Protection in the planning and conduct of investigations and support the development of plans that aim to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

This is a rare permanent part-time position (30.4 hrs per week) for those looking for a true work/life balance. The position is based at Department of Families, Fairness and Housing across both Cheltenham and Frankston sites and at the specified Bayside Peninsula Salvation Army location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote improved understanding of the perpetrator’s risk, pattern of coercive control and its impact on children and the ability of the non-offending parent to safely parent
  • Support and guide Child Protection staff to use the Person Using Violence and Victim Survivor risk assessment tools to restore and enhance safe, child-cantered parenting
  • Use this knowledge to assist Child Protection to achieve improved outcomes for the service system and for the families reported to Child Protection within the context of family violence

About you:

  • An Undergraduate Degree in Social Work / Social Science or related community services discipline is essential
  • A minimum of three years’ experience working in the family violence service system preferably with supervisory experience
  • Expert knowledge of local family violence support services and approaches in the local area
  • Knowledge of family violence risk assessment, or awareness child protection system
  • A valid drivers license, national police check and current WWCC
