About us

The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.

The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the role

Use your skills and knowledge of family violence to create positive change for victim survivors and children of family violence. During single session engagements with applicants, you will play a key role in empowering victim survivors and providing choices. This includes assessing applicants’ immediate non-legal needs, conducting risk assessments and safety planning, and providing applicants with information and referrals to external service providers as needed.

You will establish and maintain relationships and work closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Court Registrars and community-based organisations to enable effective referrals to support services to ensure the safety of victim survivors and children. About you

You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in a related therapeutic discipline such as social work, psychology or social sciences, and demonstrated experience and knowledge of Family Violence including drivers, risks and issues that can acerbate family violence risk. You will also bring with you sound skills in the provision of support, crisis containment and risk assessment and sound stakeholder engagement skills
