No to Violence is Australia’s largest peak body for services and individuals that work with men who use family violence. No to Violence operates the national Men’s Referral Service, the national Brief Intervention Services and the Victorian based Perpetrator Accommodation Support Service, free, confidential counselling, referral and support services.

About the role

Working within the Family Advocacy and Support Services (FASS) project and working closely with stakeholders (such as FASS Duty Lawyers), the role will provide non-legal advocacy and support to service users within a court environment. They will work with men affected by family violence (both perpetrators and victims), navigating state and federal based court system complexities to support the safety of service users and their children.

The role will also:

  • Provide support and non-legal advice to service users at the Circuit Family Law Court
  • Work with the Information Referral Officer to maximise referral opportunities
  • Ensure all service users understand their rights and responsibilities
  • Liaise with the family law court’s registry and security about implementing the safety plan for service users
  • Provide advocacy on behalf of service users with stakeholder organisations
  • Prepare reports for management regarding services provided

As part of the circuit court, you will be expected to travel when rostered to do so. As you will only be rostered to work in the circuit court when in the area, the rest of your work will be spent undertaking Men’s Family Violence Counsellor work (from home).

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification per https://www.vic.gov.au/mandatory-minimum-qualifications-specialist-family-violence-practitioners
  • Proven experience in counselling and referral work in a community-based service
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • An understanding of integrated family violence service systems in Victoria
