About Us?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and deliver of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Southeast Queensland.
IUIH established the Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS) in 2011 as a strategic response to the significant growth and geographic dispersion of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Moreton Bay area.
The MATSICHS Family Wellbeing Service (FWS) purpose is to walk alongside vulnerable Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children and Families to support, build, and strengthen their health and wellbeing.
About the Role?
The main purpose of the Family Wellbeing Worker role is to provide culturally safe brief interventions for vulnerable Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander families that reside in the Moreton Bay region. As a part of the role, you will be expected to:
- Contribute to a comprehensive assessment of each family’s needs, including a home visit risk assessment.
- Collaborate with each family to confirm their goals and develop a family support plan in line with the Family Centred Practice Framework. This framework is a life course/ecological, narrative, strength’s based and trauma-informed approach to working with families.
- Facilitate warm handovers to a FWS Family Practitioner (in our Ongoing Case Management team) or an external provider, if families require a level of support that will take longer than 3 months.
- Provide outreach support whenever possible. Preferably with the family in their home or alternatively in-person at one of our clinics or an off-site venue.
- Provide culturally appropriate support for families, in line with their agreed Support Plan including:
- Cultural education and cultural connection activities
o assistance with accessing, booking and/ or attending health appointments (such as GP, Counselling, Psychology, Allied Health, Youth Outreach, NDIS)
o assistance with accessing non-health specific needs (such as Centrelink, Legal, Housing, Employment, and Education)
o support and planning with household routines (e.g., morning, evening & bedtime), behaviour management, and household management (e.g., cooking, cleaning, budgeting) - Provide emotional support and advocacy for issues related to Alcohol or other drugs (AOD), Domestic and Family Violence (DFV), and Mental Health.
- Contribute and participate in quality improvement processes that develop more effective practice, outcomes, and procedures.
- Establish effective and continuous cooperative working relationships with indigenous and non-indigenous community organisations relevant to your clients needs.
- Participate in the delivery of programs to support client needs.
About You?
- Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Services, or Community Services and/or Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health and/or relevant equivalent qualification or experience
- Current Drivers Licence and ability to travel across South-East Queensland
- Current Blue Card (Must have prior to commencing employment)
- Criminal History Check (willingness to obtain one)
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificates
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply

- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
