FaRS Counsellor

About the role:

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Family and Relationship Counsellor to deliver counselling services to Tasmanian individuals and families in the North of Tasmania.

The program aims to improve the wellbeing of individuals and couples, build parenting capacity, ensure the wellbeing and safety of children, and strengthen family relationships.

As the Counsellor you will:

·         Provide a range of counselling services to adults, couples, children and families.

·         Provide clients with opportunities to actively participate in establishing goals relevant to interventions and make appropriate referrals to external sources if required.

·         Assess incoming referrals and actively participate in case allocation and delegated follow up.

·         Ensure all decisions to accept client referrals are in line with funding requirements, professional practice skills and safety issues related to quality assurance guidelines.

·         Provide counselling and group work activities in collaboration with other CatholicCare Tasmania employees across programmes or in conjunction with other organisations as relevant to the programme arrangements and client needs.


As a Counsellor you will need:

  • Demonstrated advanced skills, knowledge and experience to engage and work with people with complex needs including substance use issues, domestic/family violence and mental health concerns.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively develop and maintain partnerships, networks and client relationships.

·         Tertiary Qualifications at degree level in Social Work, Psychology or related appropriate qualifications/ discipline.

  • Hold a current Working with Vulnerable Persons Registration
  • Hold a current driver’s licence
