About the Role
Use your experience and understanding of the mining sector and passion for mental health to deliver suicide awareness and prevention programs to mine sites across New South Wales as a Field Officer for MATES in Mining. Reporting to a highly experienced Operations Manager, you will be responsible for delivering training and community development initiatives to the workforce, creating opportunities for open conversations and raising awareness about suicide and its impact on the mining industry – through training, regular site visits and providing access to help and support pathways for those struggling.
In order to be successful, this role will require someone who is highly adaptable, self-motivated, and passionate about mental health and helping others.
This positions will ideally be based in the Newcastle / Hunter Valley region with regular travel required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Promoting the MATES in Mining program across industry
- Deliver the MATES program on mining sites as well as other MATES industries such as energy, manufacturing, and construction
- Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders at new and existing sites to promote the MATES program
- Build and support volunteer networks on site such as Connectors and ASIST workers
- Schedule, coordinate and deliver training programs for workers in suicide prevention and support at mine sites across NSW
- Support workers who are struggling and connect them to appropriate supports
- Maintain regular records, collecting and maintaining data and statistics
- Other duties to support brand building and program delivery as required
Skills and Experience Required
- Either experience working in the mining industry or demonstrated ability to relate to and engage with its key stakeholders
- Genuine interest in raising awareness about suicide prevention and mental health
- Ability to deliver programs effectively and be comfortable speaking and presenting to groups
- A flexible and mature mindset, along with a calm, even-measured approach
- The ability to work autonomously and manage your own priorities
- Willingness to travel across NSW and interstate as required

- Base salary of $82,043 plus increased superannuation of 15%

- 5 weeks of annual leave, plus a monthly RDO

- Study and support allowance of up to $2,500 per annum available after 12 months in the role

About the Company
MATES in Mining is a suicide awareness and prevention program, focused on delivering evidence-based suicide awareness and prevention programs to the manufacturing industry based off the MATES in Construction model. They deliver an integrated program of community development and support, utilising training as a tool to raise awareness about suicide and mental health in the manufacturing industry.
