JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking a Financial Counsellor to join our Financial Capability Team based in Cannington. As our Financial Counsellor your role includes providing information, support and advocacy to people experiencing financial difficulties. This position works as part of the Financial Counselling Network and delivers services in line with the Communicare’s contractual arrangements.

This position will be offered on a Fixed term part time working 57 hours per fortnight.

Our ideal candidate has the ability to prepare and present community education and to raise public awareness on relevant issues.

Selection Criteria

  • Hold, or are working toward, a Diploma of Financial Counselling
  • Unrestricted drivers’ licence
  • Current Working with Children Check Card (or willing to obtain)
  • Satisfactory Police clearance (not older than 6 months from the issue date)

Relevant Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, including financial counselling or a financial service/s organisation.
  • Skilled in assisting individuals experiencing credit and debt issues to understand their rights and obligations. 
  • Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks. 
  • Intermediate communication and problem-solving skills, including negotiating and client-centred advocacy skills.
  • Intermediate customer service skills 
  • Intermediate computer, numeracy, and literacy skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of financial literacy and financial capability tools.
  • Knowledge and experience of the National Credit Code and the Bankruptcy Act 1966 is highly desirable.
