About the Position

The Financial Counsellor is responsible for providing financial counselling to clients who are experiencing financial distress to enable them to successfully manage their financial affairs, independent of further financial counselling.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Financial Case Work to referred clients.
  • Assessment of referred cases.
  • Provision of information about financial options
  • Provision of information to local community workers/services
  • Act as a resource person to other team members on financial matters
  • Group work on relevant issues, both in-house and to other community groups
  • Advocate and negotiate on a client’s behalf with relevant stakeholders, including credit providers, as required, and to assist the client to develop the skills necessary to address their situation

 

Essential Criteria:  

  • Relevant Financial Counselling qualifications and Accreditation.
  • Member of NSW State Association of Financial Counsellors (FCAN).
  • Case management experience in Financial Counselling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of consumer protection legislation and policy, credit system, debt recover and bankruptcy laws.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to negotiate tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in administration and an ability to undertake statistical returns.
  • Current Criminal History Check 
  • Current NSW working with children’s check. 
  • Current NSW driver’s license 
  • Covid-19 Vaccination 

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Understanding of the needs of socially disadvantaged/vulnerable families.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Applicants must have the right to work in Australia and be able to provide a current National Police Clearance Check.
