Financial Counsellor – Financial Hub Services

Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives. Wunan is seeking a full time Financial Counsellor to join the Financial Hub team in Kununurra.

The role will provide financial counselling including the provision of information options, financial support and advocacy for individuals in work readiness programs and their families.Whist located in Kununurra, the role will also provide services to surrounding communities including through remote service delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide counselling and assistance to people experiencing financial or consumer difficulties.
  • Promote consumer education and awareness to the community, including the delivery of a financial literacy program, with a view to encouraging consumer participation in social and economic reform.
  • Prepare outreach reports and maintain accurate statistical records.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, including to assess, plan and review case work.
  • Carry out administrative tasks and maintain case files in a competent and confidential manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive up to date client documentation.
  • Referring clients as necessary to other support agencies.
  • Ensure communication internal and external stakeholders is maintained at a highly professional and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant legislation governing the provision of financial counselling.
  • Ensure applicable legislation, policies, procedures and best practice are followed at all times, including in relation to occupational health and safety.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential criteria:

  • Diploma in Financial Counselling (or recognised equivalent)
  • Displayed commitment to impacting positively on the dignity and quality of life of people who are affected by social and economic disadvantages.
  • Sound oral and written communication with a demonstrate ability to communicate professionally.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills.
  • A strong understanding of Indigenous culture.

Desirable selection criteria:

  • Previous working experience in Remote Aboriginal Communities.
  • Relevant qualification /experience in the finance sector.
  • Experience working in community service organisation/s.

Pre-employment requirements:

☒ Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)

☒ Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license.
