Moneycare is The Salvation Army’s national financial counselling and financial capability program. It is one of the largest and long-running such programs in Australia. About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Financial Counsellor to provide financial counselling, client casework and advocacy. You will conduct community education in order to ease the suffering or hardship of people in financial difficulty or crisis. This will be implemented in accordance with The Salvation Army mission and policy, the Doorways model of service delivery, Moneycare policy and procedures, as well as to the requirements of the relevant professional accreditation, regulation and funding bodies.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide holistic financial counselling and advocacy service to people in financial difficulty or crisis
  • Recognise ways in which other life issues may interact with personal financial issues, considers the clients’ unique circumstances, their financial history and behaviours
  • Conduct group community education (financial literacy/capability) sessions in consultation with the Moneycare Regional Manager
  • Help people build long-term capability, manage their money better and make informed choices
  • Operate the local Moneycare practise with autonomy within TSA and Moneycare policy and procedure, managing own scheduling, case load and reporting of statistical data

This is a fixed term (until 1/7/2025), part-time position, (21 hours, 3 days per week). This hybrid role requires you to work: Wednesday (from home), Thursday and Friday (onsite). The site is open from 9am and closes at 4:30pm. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 5.

What you will bring

  • Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) or be willing to undertake study from outset
  • Degree qualifications or extensive experience in the fields of Welfare, Finance, Community Services, Psychology or Business fields
  • 12+ months experience in a relevant field
  • Accreditation as a Financial Counsellor or be willing to attain accreditation
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a counselling framework highly regarded
  • Ability to competently use various technology platforms and applications
  • Willingness to travel on occasion for training and development
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under conflicting time pressures
  • Employee VIC Working with Children’s Check
  • Victorian Driver’s Licence
  • National Police Record Check is required
