FINANCIAL COUNSELLOR/MONEY MANAGEMENT WORKER

Our organisation focuses on improving financial literacy and knowledge to individuals and Indigenous communities by providing education and intensive support in Money Management.
HKTC Money Management Service works in the West Arnhem Land and Kakadu communities of Gunbalanya, Jabiru, Mudginberri, Warruwi and Minjilang as well as Belyuen, Bagot, Knuckeys Lagoon, Minmirama Park, Palmerston Indigenous Village, One Mile Dam, Kululuk and the Nightcliff Renal Centre.
We also provide support to individuals and families through the use of tools and resources to develop budgets, debt management plans, savings goals, understanding banking products and services and also assisting clients with bill paying.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We have a position available that can be filled by either a Financial Counsellor, Financial Counsellor intern or Money Management Worker depending on the right candidate. The work functions will be modified depending on the mix of skills recruited.
The positions will contribute to the company’s overall performance by assisting the team in the provision of the following to clients:
- Financial literacy education, access to financial services information and case management support.
- Development of good money practices, improved living standards and well-being by assisting in improving financial literacy and the ability of people to manage their money better.
Financial Counselling Role Specific
• Conducting financial counselling case management
These are full-time position, 37.5 hours per week with regular travel to remote communities in West Arnhem and Kakadu and outreach in Darwin region. Attractive salary and conditions of employment. Travel allowance for all remote travel.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
- Suitable knowledge, understanding of and commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- A team player with good personal time management, planning and control skills
- Ability to recognise the importance of attention to detail and following through on commitments.
- Adaptability and flexibility
- Relationship building and persuasiveness.
- A high level of energy and drive
- Able to travel for up to a week at a time to remote communities.
- NT Drivers Licence (ability to drive manual 4WD)
- Working with Children Clearance
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or people from disadvantaged socioeconomic groups.
- Experience working within a stringent compliance framework.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office Applications
- Current NT Driver’s Licence – with the ability to drive manual 4WD vehicles.
- Current National Police check that demonstrates there is no charge or conviction of a serious violent offence and no convictions for fraud.
- Current Working with Children Clearance
Financial Counselling Role Specific
- Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) or current enrolment or willingness to obtain.
Money Management Worker Role Specific
- Ability and willingness to obtain CHCSS00077 – Financial Literacy Education Skill Set within first year of employment.
ESSENTIAL
- Australian citizen;
- Permanent resident; or
- Visa holder legally permitted to work full time in Australia
