Financial Counsellor, National Debt Helpline Uniting NSW & ACT

JOB DESCRIPTION

About the opportunity

We are seeking a Financial Counsellor to join Uniting on a casual basis to provide information, options and advocacy for individuals and families who are experiencing financial problems. This is a rewarding opportunity for passionate individuals who wish to make a real difference in the lives of others.

The Financial Counsellor will triage, assess, explore, and provide options relating to financial and debt issues to NSW residents who make contact with the National Debt Helpline phone service.

About You

  • Hold or working to complete a Diploma in Financial Counselling.
  • Several years’ of demonstrated experience in a financial advisory position;
  • Current membership to Financial Counsellors Association of NSW, or willing to become a member and maintain 20 CPD points per annum, supported by Uniting;
  • Good understanding of policy and frameworks; familiar with Australian Financial Counselling Code of Ethical Practice;
  • Thorough knowledge of debt legislation, consumer credit law, debt enforcement practices and bankruptcy law;
