 Job Details   

Title: Financial Counsellor  

Terms of Employment: Full time, Fixed Term until 30 June 2023  

Hours: 5 days a week 

Reporting to: Kay Dilger, Head of  Financial Wellbeing  

Position supervises: Students and Volunteers (on occasion) 

Location:             186 Forster St East, Dandenong, 5 Osborne Avenue, Springvale and travel across City of Greater Dandenong and City of Casey as required. 

Award Classification: Employment in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4 – 5 (dependent on qualifications and experience) 

 The total salary package includes 10.5% super and salary packaging (while allowed under tax law and without incurring any Fringe Benefit tax liability). A probationary period of six months applies to this position. The incumbent will be required to support SECL policies and procedures. 

 About the role and how you’ll fit into the bigger picture   

The Financial Counsellor role is located within the Financial Wellbeing team, consisting of paid staff, students and volunteers. The Financial Wellbeing team supports people in our diverse community who are experiencing financial hardship and barriers to navigating financial systems.  Financial Counsellors work with community members to resolve financial difficulty and set financial goals through information, support, advocacy and referral while working with people towards financial stability and inclusion. 

‘Your Day-to-Day Duties’   

  • Completion of comprehensive assessments and financial counselling case work, utilising holistic, person centred and evidence-based service delivery frameworks while advocating for positive change.  
  • Supporting stakeholder relationships and working collaboratively for the benefit of the community we work with. 
  • Applying a disciplined approach to data entry in line with SECL guidelines and ensuring privacy and confidentiality compliance.  
  • Facilitating a culturally safe and innovative work environment that values diversity and inclusion. 
  • Actively supporting the Financial Wellbeing Team to achieve strategic objectives established for the organisation, inclusive of, identifying and reporting emerging trends and unmet needs within front line service delivery 
  • Contribute to the achievement of SECL’s Strategic Plan through organisational participation, enthusiasm for change projects and active support for service integration across programs and teams 

 ‘Does this sound like you?’ (Key Selection Criteria)   

  • Hold (or be currently completing) the Diploma Financial Counselling and be a member of Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic) 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of people and professionals 
  • Knowledge of contemporary practice frameworks and micro skills and a strong commitment to working in an integrated way with diverse communities 
  • Broad contemporary knowledge of relevant services and systems that support vulnerable people, multicultural communities, family violence victim/survivors and promote social and financial inclusion. 
  • MARAM training and Current IT skills in using Outlook, Word and Microsoft OneDrive desirable. 

Safety Screening checks required prior to commencement of employment  

For the successful candidate safety screening checks will be required prior to commencement of employment including a national police record check, valid Working with Children Check and a valid copy of COVID19 vaccination status.
