The Gambling Help Service (GHS) delivers primary, secondary and tertiary interventions for problem gambling behaviour.

Primary interventions improve community understanding of problem gambling and associated issues.

Secondary interventions create collaboration with industry and venues to build relationships that enable identification and referrals. Strategies are also aimed at families, friends and communities who are affected by the gambling of others.

Tertiary interventions provide case management support that is culturally appropriate and includes individualised assessment, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services.

The Gambling Help Practitioner will actively promote the service through tailored community education sessions throughout the region, including networking and collaborative partnerships.

Case management support, including counselling, is provided to those individuals who are affected by gambling behaviour and experiencing a range of issues and challenges. They will work in accordance with the philosophies of Uniting Country SA, and actively support positive change within disadvantages communities and individuals.

You will:

  • Have a high level of communication skills, including the ability to establish rapport and maintaining a positive relationship with clients.
  • Have case management and counselling experience using harm minimisation strategies.
  • Be self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Have an understanding of the issues, barriers and complex needs of people when faced with gambling harm.

It is essential for you to have: 

  • Current Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Certificate lV (or above) in a Human Services related discipline e.g. Community Services, Case Management, Disability, Mental Health, Youth Work, etc.
  • Relevant experience, in a paid or voluntary capacity.

A Diploma of Community Service (Financial Counselling) will be highly regarded, but is not essential.

A tertiary qualification in a Human Services related discipline e.g. Social Work will be highly regarded.  

You may also need to be available for some out of hours work and travel between Uniting Country SA sites or interstate as required.
