You will work as an integral part of the Ballarat Community Health (BCH) Youth, Family & Community Support team and provide Generalist counselling services to meet community needs.  Ballarat Community Health is committed to diversifying funding streams including NDIS, state funding and fee for service to be able to improve service access for the community to access generalist counselling services. BCH also provides counselling through Employee Assist programs that are funded by workplaces. 

This role will assist in providing initial contact with clients to assess counselling needs and registering them against the most appropriate funding stream. The aim is to provide clients with timely and seamless entry into counselling while maximising the capacity of the generalist counsellors to provide quality services.   

This role will include providing intake, assessment and triage, brief intervention or short term counselling, consultation, support and advice to other program staff such as Health Promotion, AOD, and Refugee Services. While the focus will be on general counselling, there may be opportunity to provide group work and education for the community.  The counsellor will be expected to work with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A degree in Social Work, Psychology, Family Therapy or Counselling 
  • Eligibility for registration with PACFA, AASW, APS or AAFT 
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling, with the knowledge of a range of theoretical frameworks used in working with children, individuals, couples, families and groups
  • Experience and understanding of rural and regional issues impacting on individual’s and family’s wellbeing in the current environment
  • Knowledge of the welfare and health networks in the Ballarat region
