JOB DESCRIPTION

A role with unique responsibilities
The Genetic Counsellor plays a vital role in a patient’s journey. You are responsible for providing genetic counselling for patients undertaking genetic testing across various reproductive stages including pre-conception, IVF and prenatal. With exceptional care and support, you will directly enhance the patient experience. Working closely with the Genetics team, your responsibilities include:

  • Provide post-test genetic counselling for patients who have had genetic testing across various reproductive stages including pre-conception, IVF and prenatal.
  • Provide evidence-based counselling on ultrasound findings including soft markers and fetal abnormalities
  • Educate and inform patients about prenatal genetic screening/testing and PGT processes
  • Assist with Monash IVF’s national Genetic Carrier Screening program
  • Provide patients with exceptional care and support following high risk results
  • Educate and be a resource for referrers on the various services and genetic tests offered by Sydney Ultrasound for Women/Monash IVF Group
  • Participate in research opportunities in collaboration with specialists at Sydney Ultrasound for Women

Are you the ideal candidate for us?
As a Genetic Counsellor, you will be sensitive to the needs of patients and will support their wellbeing through timely and considered communication. Ideally you will bring the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health science or related field
  • Post Graduate qualification in genetic counselling (essential)
  • Active Candidate Status with Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) and Professional Registration (essential)
  • Current financial member of the HGSA and ASGC
  • The natural ability to provide a caring customer service to our patients
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and well-developed communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A demonstrable track record of providing quality prenatal genetic counselling
  • The proven ability to prioritise and manage workload demands
  • A willingness to fit in and embrace the Monash IVF Group Principles
